Downtown Men’s Bible Study (DMBS) will deconstruct the Plans, Goals, and Outcomes taught by the world and reconstruct the same plans, goals, and outcomes on a biblical foundation.

Phil challenges us to examine our work in view of these three statements:

1. Just because your work is good, doesn’t mean you’re doing it for the right reason.
2. Just because your work is good, doesn’t mean you’re the one who is supposed to be doing it.
3. Even good work done by the right people can become a joyless slog if our focus is on outcomes, not on God.

In your work, and even more broadly in your life, being clear about why you do what you do and the who you are doing it for helps keep everything in proper perspective. Rooting your work in the firm, biblical ground of who you are in Christ and trusting that He ultimately gives growth to your efforts provides the framework for joy-filled work.

3 TIPS TO SEE YOUR GOALS THROUGH

Setting goals is a very common practice in organizations and ministries, but accomplishing those goals can allude many. Charles Lee, CEO of Ideation and author of “Good Idea. Now What?”, encourages goal setters to remain positive and keep working, even when we think we’ve failed.

Charles Lee’ three tips for accomplishing the goals you’ve set:

1. Celebrate what has already been accomplished
2. Remove the non-essentials
3. Recalibrate your passion back to your original goals

Questions:

1. What accomplishments can you celebrate from the last six or twelve months? Take a few moments to express thankfulness to God and celebrate the team for all the good that has happened.
2. What non-essentials in your life and work are keeping you from meeting your goals? What distractions from what is most important do you need to remove?
3. What one, big goal have you been thinking about giving up? Use this post as motivation to fight that discouragement. Create a plan here for seeing this goal through to the end.

As hard as it may be to accomplish, the point is simple—don’t be discouraged about not meeting your goals. Stay positive about every good thing you have accomplished, get uncluttered and refocus your attention. Don’t give up because you have to change your deadline but remember the passion that made you write down your goals in the first place.
