I AM THE NEW YEAR
I am the New Year. I am unused, unspotted, without blemish. I stretch before you 365 days long. I will present each day in its turn, a new leaf in the Book of Life for you to place upon it your imprint. It remains for you to make of me what you will. If you write with firm, steady strokes, my page will be a joy to look upon when the next year comes. If the pen falters, if uncertainty or doubt should mark the page, it will become a day to remember with pain.
I am the New Year. I am here — but once past, I can never be recalled. Make me your best.
Colleagues, I do not know the source of these insightful words, but I pull them out of my files at the beginning of each year to serve as a reminder for the outlook that I should have in all of my endeavors. I now invite your attention to the words of Herman Hesse that can also be useful and meaningful as we begin a new year.
As every step inclines, as every flower wilts and youth gives way to aging, equally, every phase of life, every season has it’s time and will not last forever. As Life continually calls for action and change, let your hearts fully embrace, as well as to release, all encounters and experiences. Each new beginning encompasses a wonder that protects and helps us live fully and completely. Therefore, be empowered to joyfully travel through each season of your life free, without attachment. The Great Spirit seeks not to enslave or restrict, but to step by step expand, enlarge and grow us. Just when Life becomes familiar and comfortable, we are asked to change and transform with love. The call of Life for each of us will never end. Well then, my heart, say goodbye, be well and expand.
May the words in this commentary for 2017 cause us to be reflective on where we are in life, and in our professional, personal, and service lives. Again, Happy New Year, all. May we continue to be the beneficiaries of blessings in all aspects of our lives.
